[edit] Profile
Tegoshi entered Johnny's Jrs. on December 1, 2002 "to be like SMAP", and was selected as a member of NEWS after a mere ten months on September 15, 2003. Unknown to most, many thought he neither belonged nor deserved to be a part of NEWS--until they heard him sing.
His career and popularity escalated in late 2004, when he was cast as the lead for the movie Shisso, which premiered at the first annual Montreal FilmFest on September 22, 2005. He was the first NEWS member to act in a movie. Since then, he has gained acting experience through mini-dramas such as Ie ga Tooi and 15-sai no Blues, as well as his first full drama with bandmate Masuda Takahisa, GACHIBAKA!, the popular My Boss My Hero with fellow Johnny's idols Nagase Tomoya (TOKIO) and Tanaka Koki (KAT-TUN), a special winter drama called Hyoten with Ishihara Satomi, and even voice acting for the Japanese release of Happy Feet. He has also appeared in Tongari Corn commercials with Imai Tsubasa, another for Vermont Curry, and had a radio program titled NEWS Tegoshi Yuya no What a Wonderful Music! (Mondays, 23:30-24:00 on NACK5) that has since been discontinued.
On October 27, 2006, Tegoshi made his first solo appearance on Music Station performing Sunadokei, a song better known as a duet with Masuda Takahisa. He has since guested on Shounen Club and recently debuted a new unit with aforementioned bandmate, the somewhat awkwardly named Tegomass, in November (Sweden) and December (Japan) 2006.
[edit] Muse
Tegoshi was claimed on a whim in late May 2005 alongside a handful of other NEWS muses. Most of his activity consists of the occasional terrorizing of JPRP via unnecessary and often nonsensical spam, though he has toned it down quite a bit since his first few months (thank God).
His most notable accomplishment has been the division of the majority of his community (and partly others) into teams of pirates and ninjas, the latter of which he leads in opposition to Yokoyama Yu. He is also responsible for JPRP's Black Ops Defense Force, which is hardly an intimidating sight to behold, but they try.
In September 2005, Tegoshi announced his (faux-) marriage to Masuda Takahisa. However, they are not a practicing couple, as both remain straight, and this entire ordeal was settled over a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without any reason other than the possibility of receiving gifts (for the record, there were none). Unfortunately, it created some of the most awkward (pseudo-) family ties between Nishikido Ryo, Uchi Hiroki and others, most of which he simply disowned after losing track of who is what to who, etc. and so forth.
What remains of his slate beyond these happenings is sizable, however private. None of it will be posted here.
[edit] Relations
- Masuda Takahisa- Longtime partner in crime and close friend, Masuda and Tegoshi were originally grouped together with Moriuchi Takahiro, who left NEWS not long after their debut. One of their duets, Zutto, was released on NEWS's Touch album. They are currently acting as a unit (Tegomass) and have released one single, Miso Soup.
- Yamashita Tomohisa- Respected and admired beyond measure.
- Nishikido Ryo- Ryo's love for Tegoshi borders on the creepy.
- Uchi Hiroki- Uchi's initial reaction to Tegoshi was on par with WTF?.
- Koyama Keiichiro- Muse-wise, this one's never stuck around long enough to have much said about him. On the flip side, akin to a leech.
- Kato Shigeaki- Shige has a bizarre sense of humor and an awkward, jolting way of speaking, thinking and reacting that Tegoshi really gets a kick out of. They often compose together, with Shige writing music/on guitar and Tegoshi writing lyrics/on vocals, and have two songs, Over and Gomibako.
- Kusano Hironori- Typically one of the few to match Tegoshi's energy level, however surpassing him in general idiocy.
- Tanaka Koki- My Boss My Hero co-star, otherwise acquaintance.
- Yokoyama Yu- The enemy.
- Domoto Koichi- Dance and driving instructor (at the risk of his very pretty cars), etc.. It's complicated.
- Kawabe Chieco- Brief fling, still crushing.
- Nagase Tomoya-
- Kirito-
[edit] Other
- Tegoshi is an official member on a new quiz show called Itte Q, which started February 4, 2007.
- He is currently attending Waseda University, studying psychology.
- His signature "Tegoshi desu" pose was gifted to him shortly after NEWS's debut by Domoto Tsuyoshi when the group guested on Domoto Kyodai.
- It seems that Tegoshi's shift-key is hanging: 61.4% of the time, he writes in UPPERCASE.
