Spread Beaver was a band of musicians that started as the support band for hide’s second solo album, Psyence. Some of the members had been working and touring with hide since he first branched out from X Japan in 1993, and some even before that. They made their presence known to the music world during hide’s solo Psyence a Go Go tour in 1996, endearing themselves to his fans and spurring hide to make them all an official band, their full name being hide with Spread Beaver.

Spread Beaver was known for not only being composed of some of the most talented musicians around, but for their high energy, playful antics, and the apparent and infectious philosophy of life to have endless fun.

Those who made up the band have been known to say that hide with Spread Beaver had been intended to go on forever, and when hide died, it was obvious that they were simply not able or ready to cope. They only produced one album together, which was actually not completed at the time of hide’s death in 1998. Band member INA made it his business to finish the album, Ja Zoo, and the band proceeded with the scheduled tour without their leader. The tour sold out every night.

[edit] Pata

  • Real Name: Ishizuka Tomoaki
  • Instrument: Guitar
  • Pata was not actually considered a member of Spread Beaver during its initial run and conception, due to having other projects and personal business to take care of during the proposed recording and touring time. However, Pata is a motherfucking bad ass, so he’s going in here anyway. A bandmate of hide’s from X Japan, Pata stuck by hide during the majority of his solo career, participating in studio recording and touring for his first two albums. After hide’s death, Pata joined the posthumous tour as a full time guitarist.
  • Current projects: Ra:IN, ex-Dope HEADz

[edit] I.N.A.

  • Real Name: Kazuhiko Inada
  • Instrument: Electronic percussion & programming
  • Support member of X Japan, worked with hide all during his solo career, longtime friend, stage fright. See INA <-- that link for more.
  • Current projects: SONIC STORAGE, ex-Dope HEADz, remixing for Machine

[edit] Chirolyn

  • Real Name: Watanabe Hiroshi
  • Instrument: Bass
  • Chirolyn was a member of a band called Hiroshi, and was kidnapped by hide to record his first solo album and then later tour with him. Chirolyn’s outlandish hair and dress styles and upbeat, silly personality endeared himself to fans and band members alike immediately. He had a short lived project entitled Chirolyn and the Angels on hide’s LEMONed Label. Chirolyn had several songs that he performed during hide concerts, the most well known being “Kimi wa Kawatchimatta”. He was also famous for his drag alter-ego, Chiroru.
  • Current projects: Madbeavers, support for Machine, support for AcQuA-E.P.

[edit] D.I.E.

  • Real Name: Nozawa Daijirou
  • Instrument: Keyboards
  • Another X Japan support musician who also worked with Zi:Kill, GLAY and many others, DIE was among the first people hide harvested for his solo project. DIE was very often Chirlyon’s partner in crime on and off stage, and is unfortunately well known for breaking his ankle while running away with Chirolyn’s bass. Not even that stopped him, however, and he continued to play and even do solo (vocal) numbers from his elaborately decorated wheel chair.
  • Current projects: Solo work, support for Ra:IN, support for AcQuA-E.P.

[edit] Joe

  • Real Name: Miyawaki Satoshi
  • Instrument: Drums
  • Like Chirolyn and DIE, Joe participated in the recording and touring of hide’s early solo works, having previously been in the band Ziggy. His amazing talent and cheerful personality worked exceptionally well with the other members.
  • Current projects: Madbeavers, support for Machine

[edit] Kiyoshi

  • Real Name: Honma Kiyoshi
  • Instrument: Guitar
  • During the 1996 Psyence a Go Go tour, Kiyoshi was the new kid on the block, replacing support guitarist Ran, having (so we hear) met hide through their mutual bandmate (X Japan and Media Youth respectively), Heath. His trademark orange hair, outrageous neon clothing and constant high energy made him stand out even in this band. His relationship with hide ran hot and cold; the two fought often, especially after a few drinks, but were the best of friends when they were happy with each other.
  • Current projects: Madbeavers, Machine, Lucy

[edit] Kaz

  • Real Name: Iwaike Kaz
  • Instrument: Guitar
  • Pata’s break from the band left a role to be filled, and newcomer Kaz filled it well. Putting his band Oblivion Dust on hiatus to record with hide, Kaz was an initially shy but ultimately very talented addition to the band.
  • Current projects: SONIC STORAGE, support for Hyde, ex-Spin Aqua, ex-Oblivion Dust
