First of all: why yes, it is capitalized as Hide, and do you know why? Because he originally went by Hide, not hide. Oh, and it doesn't matter! 8) But on to the wiki-ness.

[edit] Wait, what? Why is hide on this thing?

Now that's a very relevant question, isn't it? JRRP was founded in 2002, and as we're all aware hide passed away in 1998. It's all very simple actually! As with any community, initially jrrp didn't really have the rock-solid rules it has today, and there was some grey area as to who and what could be constituted as a claim. Wait, there's still that today. XD Anyway! So back in the day JRRP had a ghost hide, aka matsumoto_hide. He was quite mischievous and amusing, but eventually it was decided that sleeping dogs should be left to lie, and hide was no longer a force present in the community. Probably around the same time the mun lost interest or something related to that, and the games ended.

Also, many muses at JRRP have some history with the hide in their hearts, and this would be a good place/arena to really put those historical pieces together to make a cohesive character for the jrrp hide that never really got to be.

[edit] Basic Generic History

X in 1987
X in 1987

Hide was enamored of the guitar from a very early age, and was first in a band called Saber Tiger. He later moved to Saver Tiger, which is referred to as Yokosuka Saver Tiger to disambiguate it from the other band (seeing as how b/v sounds are almost the same in Japanese). After that, disillusioned with his lack of success in the music arena, hide decided that he wanted to become a stylist, and enrolled in beauty school. It was during this time that he was contacted by Yoshiki and invited to join what was then called X (and later renamed X JAPAN to avoid confusion with a punk band already named X). He accepted, joining Yoshiki, Pata, Taiji, and Toshi (and later Heath in Taiji's place) in the fledgling soon to be father of visual kei band X. And the rest is history.

X's last live.
X's last live.

X JAPAN went on hiatus in 1993 or so, and each member did some solo project work. hide's project was successful, and spawned a tour following the release of his album hide your face. This tour included a hired band of musicians that would later become the group Spread Beaver, which he adopted as his band on the tour following the release of his second album Psyence, in 1996. X JAPAN later disbanded in 1997.

Sometime around this time he also began working with some Americans, developing a band named Zilch which would release the album 3,2,1 following hide's death in 1998. The Spread Beaver album Ja, Zoo was also posthumously released in 1998, and followed by a tour that hide had arranged himself, which featured the members of Spread Beaver performing hide's songs with images of hide projected on a gigantic screen behind them. Each performance was sold out.

The hide museum was opened in 2000, built to honor hide's memory and share hide's personality, style, and music with fans old and new alike. It was torn down in 2005, closed due to lack of funds.

[edit] Suicide or accident?

Hide's death remains a mystery. Some people believe that he killed himself on purpose, citing his last released song Pink Spider as a musical suicide note; others believe that he died accidentally while trying to practice the sexual act auto-erotic asphyxiation, and still others (including Taiji, who touched on the subject in a biography of his life) that believe hide simply had an accident while trying to relax using a common method of tying a towel around one's neck to calm the nerves. No one will ever know the truth behind this tragedy that left so much sadness in its wake.

[edit] Relationships

Here is where we begin to enter JRRP waters. It is up to each muse to include his or her perceived role in the entity that is JRRP's hide. And 'relationships' is intended to mean personal friendships, not necessarily romantic involvements. Perhaps it's best not to address that. :B

[edit] As relating to SUGIZO

Image:Hidesugizo.jpg
Now how many bottles of hairspray was that?

SUGIZO and hide professionally: hide discovered LUNA SEA at Machida Playhouse sometime in late 1989/early 1990. Shortly after, LUNA SEA were signed to Extasy Records. hide soon became like an older brother/mentor/senpai figure to Sugizo, and they spent a good amount of time together. It's rumored that hide (and the rest of the Extasy contingent) "taught" Sugizo how to drink.

SUGIZO and hide's friendship: Sugizo and hide were incredibly close friends. To this day, Sugizo considers hide an older brother. In their youth, they did a lot of crazy things -- like running around a park after a night of partying, scaring the obasans due to the makeup & extensions.

SUGIZO after hide's death: Just months after hide's death, Sugizo dyed his hair in hide's pink/black motif. He changed his image completely -- to a more wild, crazy hair/crazy makeup type of look as a tribute for hide. For the most part, Sugizo internalized hide's death to the public eye, and didn't ever really reveal how he was affected by it -- playing his heart out at hide's tribute concert, taking on the role of lead guitar. However, in 2005, Sugizo made a post on his blog commemorating hide's death. The blog revealed what he never did -- that he terribly missed, and loved hide. To this day, he still thinks about him quite a bit. The blog also implies that Sugizo believes hide committed suicide.

SUGIZO in JRRP: Sugizo has quite a lot of guilt for hide's death, believing that he could've somehow prevented it. The night of hide's death, Sugizo was with Zilch and hide, drinking -- but he left early. Hours later, hide was dead. Sugizo believes that he should've been able to see that something was wrong, and completely believes the death was an accidental suicide brought on by alcohol. Sugizo's feelings for hide also amplify this guilt -- he was quite in love with hide, but doesn't really like to admit it to himself, or anyone else. He very rarely ever talks about hide unless necessary.

[edit] As relating to INA

Image:INAhidebw.jpg
Did we say co-producer? We meant bitch. INA giving hide massage during the Psyence a Go Go tour.

INA and hide professionally: INA began working with hide in a professional capacity in the early 90s with X Japan. INA impressed hide enough with his work that they began working together on his solo material. Over the course of hide’s solo career, INA moved from mixing, arranging, and recording to all that plus co-producing every track hide put out. INA was a constant factor in hide’s music, never substituting or going with someone else to do his various jobs. Not only did he work with hide on his solo work, he was a member of Spread Beaver and also of hide’s American band, Zilch.

INA and hide's friendship: The two were extremely close friends. Unlike the majority of the people hide surrounded himself with, INA is an introvert - very quiet, very soft spoken, and stricken with rather bad stage fright. hide often teased INA about it, usually while they were both on stage. INA lived with hide for some time, during which the two supposedly made a demo tape for a project that will now never see the light of day due to sentimental reasons (citation: INA's blog and the Japanese wikipedia).

INA after hide's death: The details of INA’s personal relationship with hide remains that: personal. He does talk about him, though outside of recalling certain clinical situations, is very vague. INA’s quiet nature often makes him seem unfeeling, regardless of the fact that out of all of hide’s bandmates, he remains the only one to participate in hide’s fan club and memorial events regularly (opposed to sporadic guest appearences). In May 2006, eight years after hide’s passing, INA shocked fans by crying on stage while speaking of his dear friend, and then later again when speaking of the decision to allow the band RIZE to cover Pink Spider. Clearly having never coped with his friend's death, INA over the latter course of 2006 has been making depressed blog posts (cryptic nostalgia, remarks about suffering from insomnia, sometimes blatant comments about being bitter over the public's treatment of hide’s memory) and having sporadic breakdowns in public over it. Here's to hoping he'll be all right.

INA in JRRP: If INA is going to discuss hide, it’s going to be in an abstract manner, or to recall a specific, happy memory. He tends to shy away from strangers inquiring about his work with the man, and is made uncomfortable by people recognizing him for it. He is very glad he missed the run of hide’s “ghost”. Lately INA has been having some trouble with it thanks to his real, which has lead to a few problems, mainly causing him to withdraw both socially and mentally.

[edit] As relating to Fujii Maki

Maki and hide professionally: Though it was often the subject of rambling, late-night discussion, Maki and hide never worked together professionally.

Maki and hide's friendship: An intensely private person, Maki's friendship with hide was never very visible to the public, or anyone else for that matter. However, in the midst of otherwise crazy parties they could often be found tucked away somewhere engaging in quiet conversation. hide also introduced to Maki to one of the most important people in his life: Imai Hisashi.

Maki after hide's death: Maki toured with Zilch during the Cutt Your Edge tour in 1999, deciding that his friend's death would not interfere with their handshake promise to collaborate.

Maki in JRRP: Maki doesn't have any desire to retread the past, though it definitely still saddens him. Occasionally he may revisit happy memories, but he sees no reason to be depressed over someone who brought so much joy. He may not have known hide as well as others, but he knew him well enough to understand that hide would not want his friends to waste their time on mourning.

[edit] As relating to Kiyoshi

Playful snapshot.
Playful snapshot.

Kiyoshi likely met hide sometime before the Psyence a Go Go tour, for which he was recruited to play lead guitar (taking the place of Ran, for reasons unknown). One of the last additions to Spread Beaver, he suffered the standard initation hazing, ranging from often cruel silent treatment from the rest of the band in response to his arguments with hide to good natured pranks. Despite such treatment his attitude and ego remained unbreakable, and he often challenged the authority of members in higher command, including Pata, INA, and hide himself. Despite disagreements, Kiyoshi and hide were very close friends and often enjoyed each other's drunken company during the course of their friendship. Though they fought nearly as often as not, Kiyoshi always regarded hide as one of his nearest and dearest friends, to the point that he felt able to talk to him about everything and anything, a comfort he rarely afforded himself with friends.

After hide's death, Kiyoshi teamed up with INA to help organize the Tribal Ja, Zoo tour. In a rare expression of emotion, he collapsed in tears at the tour's final show and had to be helped off stage. He began work with Madbeavers during this tour, the name of the project no doubt a tribute to the golden years of Spread Beaver. Lucy is said to be a hide tribute band in which hide would have been performing himself at this time had things in the past gone differently.

Emotionally, Kiyoshi rarely expresses his inner feelings or thoughts to anyone save the very closest of his echelon of social contacts, but it's obvious to those who know him that he feels tortured by the discord he often caused during his stint in Spread Beaver, his memories of screaming matches, drunken fights, and endless periods of silent treatment a guilty residue on the more pleasant memories of endless parties and happy days-happy nights with what was probably his most beloved and favorite group.
